“Unaccompanied” June 1, 7:00pm: a concert exploration of immigration and Americanness

Leo Eguchi

What Sounds “American”? A Concert experience with cellist Leo Eguchi.

On Sunday, June 1, at 7:00pm, Music at Abington presents UNACCOMPANIED, an immigration themed solo performance project featuring newly commissioned works by immigrant and first generation American composers. Cello soloist and project coordinator, Leo Eguchi, will also lead the Sunday morning Forum Class (8:45-9:40am) reflecting on this project. Leo notes “It is difficult to have a meaningful conversation about immigration these days. The issues have touched all of our families, yet there are entrenched obstacles to being able to speak, share, and (most importantly) listen about it.”

Sunday evening concert will be presented in the intimacy of the Parish Hall as Leo presents video introductions to each of the composers and pieces before playing them. The original 8 pieces of the project have been expanded to include composers with roots in indigenous cultural traditions. The concert will also feature a newly co-commissioned *world premiere* by recent MAA guest soloist Ajibola Rivers.
