The Mission Council is sponsoring a letter-writing campaign to celebrate the nation’s birthday. Let us see if church members or attendees might write 250 letters (for 250 years as a country) to their local, state, and national officials between July 4^th and Labor Day.

We encourage believers to promote causes informed by individual faith journeys, beliefs and actions and aligned with the heavenly kingdom envisioned by Jesus. Those letters could be, of course, focused on those who are victimized, marginalized, or facing physical and mental dangers. However, those letters could also advocate for any issue that is important to you. We, the people of the church, are claiming space at the table of public discourse, where we are called to be in the community. To date we already have 21 letters written and the official campaign doesn’t start until July 4!

Who is my representative? To whom do I write?

Township Commissioners (you can also look up your own township/borough commissioners on their home website): Abington, Upper Dublin, Upper Moreland, Cheltenham. What should I remember when I write my letter?

• You may handwrite, type, or email your letter. Most of the representatives had no preference, but John Fetterman prefers email with a limited word count.
• Choose one issue and be specific about what your concern is and what action you think the representative should consider or take.
• You are not taking a position that is endorsed by Abington Presbyterian Church, which is not a political entity. You are acting out of faith and based on your personal understanding and research into the issues.
