Greetings, updates, and a look ahead from the Pastor
APC Members and Friends –
I greet you after having been on a bit of vacation. I would love to see you in church, but alas, perhaps the best we can do is for you to see me in church leading worship remotely through our next youtube link. That link will be sent out to you by email and you can find it on our church Facebook page and our website home page sometime Saturday evening or Sunday morning.
This week begins a four-week sermon series on what makes for a vibrant faith. Each week, we will be looking at a significant noun from scripture which might help us to have a faith that can withstand and even grow during the challenges of these days. This week, the word we will be focusing on is: Logos. That’s a Greek word for – well, tune in and you will find out. Our scripture readings for Sunday are Psalm 119:105-112 and James 1:17-25.
Our Pandemic Programming Work Team continues to meet weekly to explore when and how we might gather safely in the future. Expect to receive a survey from them early next week. Your responses to that survey will tell the team a lot that will inform them about your comfort level about attending various in-person gatherings.
APC’s partner in ministry, West Kensington Ministry, serves a predominately Latinx community in an economically challenged section of Philadelphia. Though improving, drugs, violence, malnutrition and unemployment continue to plague this community. Recently, as a result of the Corona Virus, WKM began providing 5000 meals per week of primary food assistance to those in need. Take a look at this linked Newsletter and see what your support through APC has allowed West Kensington Ministry to do.
Knitting for Peace has happily acknowledged our recent contribution of scarves, dolls, and blankets. The items will soon be in the hands of people who need them. If you would like to be involved in the Knitting for Peace project sponsored by the Committee for Older Adult Ministries, please contact Grace Karschner by phone or email.
We are thankful for you and grateful for the ways you are continuing the life and ministry of APC through the sharing of your time, energy, and financial gifts. Please reach out to any of the pastoral staff to share joys or concerns.
Thankful for the joy that comes with God’s good news for us and for all,
Kirby Lawrence Hill
