APC Members and Friends -

Maundy Thursday is almost here.  This Thursday, April 18 at 7:30 p.m. will be a service remembering Jesus’ last supper with his followers.  Our communion service will be done in a special way this year.  We will also have a Tenebrae part of the service when the sanctuary will be gradually darkened as we hear the statements Jesus made from the cross.  The sermon that evening, based on Mark 14:12-31, will be entitled, “Giving Totally.”

On Good Friday, April 19 at 1 p.m. will be a presentation by our children’s choirs of “The Tale of Three Trees,” a meaningful expression for the day that marks when Jesus died on a cross.

On Easter Sunday, April 21, please note the difference in worship times from a regular Sunday.  At 7:30 a.m. will be our Sunrise Service that will begin in our cemetery and will conclude in our sanctuary.  This service will include communion.  Our 9 a.m. and 11 a.m. services will include brass and full choirs in celebration of the resurrection of our Lord.  Scripture passages for the day are Acts 10:34-43 and Luke 24:1-12, with the sermon entitled, “Un-idling the Tale.”  An Easter egg hunt for the children will take place on the front lawn at 10 a.m.  There will be no Sunday school classes this week.  Childcare for each of these services (except the Easter Sunday 7:30 a.m. service) is provided.

The church office will be closed on Monday, April 22.

On the Sunday after Easter, April 28, we will be celebrating our Older Adults and our longer-term members.  A luncheon following the 10 a.m. worship service will be held in the Parish Hall.  All 50-year members as well as those who are 65 or older will be guests for this luncheon.  After lunch, a special program will feature professional actress Helen McKenna, presenting “Tell-Tale Poe,” in portraying poet Edgar Allen Poe.  Please RSVP to the church office – 215-887-4530 by Tuesday, April 23.

The beautiful paper cranes installation that has enlivened our sanctuary since Advent will be moving on.  Plan to take a crane with you next Sunday, April 28, at the conclusion of worship to share a message of the gift of God’s peace.  Thanks to all who helped with this project!

Also, on Sunday, April 28, is a service opportunity at our sister church, West Kensington Ministry, 2140 N Hancock St, Philadelphia, will take place.  From 1 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. a partnership with Samaritans Feet and Philadelphia Care will be using volunteers to distribute shoes to those who are homeless.  There will those who will be washing the feet of those whose feet need extra care.  For more information on how to participate, please contact Chad Pilling.

If you have old eyeglasses you are no longer using, there are people who could benefit from those glasses.  There is a blue bin just outside the church office for the next few weeks to receive donations of your old eyeglasses to be used locally and as far away as Liberia.  You can enable someone to have the gift of improved vision!

An announcement about our upcoming accessibility (elevator and more) construction project will be made on Easter Sunday!

Looking forward to the Holy encounters,

Kirby Lawrence Hill
