APC Members and Friends -

On this Memorial Day weekend, you are encouraged to come to worship for either our 8 a.m. or 10 a.m. service.  Our scripture readings for the day will be Psalm 67 and Revelation 21:10; 21:22-22:5.  The sermon will be entitled: ‘Heaven on Earth.’ The Rev. Tom Summers, who is chaplain at Rydal Park, will be our guest preacher for the day.

Sunday adult education classes, as of last Sunday, are finished for the summer.  Our thanks to those who presented throughout the last year.

Our church office hours will change for the summer, beginning this week, when the church office will be open from 8:30 to 3:30 Mondays through Thursdays.

The Theological Book Club will meet Saturday, June 1 at 8 a.m. in Kirby’s office to discuss “For the Life of the World: Theology That Makes a Difference,” by Miroslav Volf and Matthew Croasmun.  Please join us for a lively discussion.

Outdoor worship for our 8:00 a.m. Sunday services begins June 2, weather permitting.

Our summer picnic on Sunday, June 16 will be at Alvethorpe Park this year.  We have reserved the picnic pavilion from 11-3 that day, so plan to come, rain or shine.  Individuals or families with last names A-K are asked to bring a salad to share.  Last names L-Z are asked to bring a dessert.  There will also be burgers, hot dogs, as well as plenty of games to help us to get to know other APC members and friends.

Intergenerational VBS June 24-27: New this summer!  Join us for an all-ages Vacation Bible School in the evenings.  Due to the construction, we will be moving our VBS program to the evening and include dinner and an activity each night for all ages.  Vintage VBS, Silent Movie Night, APC at the YMCA and a mission and outreach night are all part of the week’s plan.  Registration is only $10 per participant and includes a t-shirt, dinner each night, and activities.  Due to safety concerns, we are asking all children through 6th grade attend with an adult.  For a full list of activities planned for our evening VBS, please visit our apcusa.org or the C.E. bulletin board in the education wing hallway – Ruth Sall and Colleen Prestileo, co-directors.

Have you got your running shoes?  The Summer Soaker 5K will be on Saturday, June 29 at 8:30 a.m.  There will be room for runners, walkers, and plenty of volunteers.  Last year, $4000 was donated from race proceeds!  Time to sign up!

We want to honor our graduates.  If you are aware of a high school, trade school, or college graduate from among our members, please get information to the church office through smiller@apcusa.org

Thanks to all who participated in our fire drill and in our safety training last Sunday.  We had more than 35 participants at the training.

Construction Update: Mobilization for construction on the accessibility project will start on June 3, with actual construction starting June 17.  We will have full access to our facilities each weekend throughout the summer!  If you have questions about programming during the week and how that might be impacted, please call the church office.  Completion of construction is scheduled for October 4.

With gratitude for those who have sacrificed on behalf of our country,

Kirby Lawrence Hill
