Celebration Worship 1/21/18

Abington Presbyterian Life 1/21/18

THIS WEEK AT ABINGTON PRESBYTERIAN CHURCH

January 21, 2018

We look forward to seeing you this Sunday, January 21, with worship services at 8 and 10.  Our scripture readings for this Sunday will be Jonah 3:1-5, 10 and Mark 1:14-20.  The sermon is entitled “Fulfilled, Come Near.”

At the adult forum this Sunday at 8:45 in the parlor, Rev. Diane Fitch will share pictures and stories from her trip to Pakistan where she saw firsthand inspirational work that the Presbyterian Education Board is doing there.

The Bible Class will continue its study of “Why I am a Christian” led by Dr. Stephen Kim in Room 108 at 8:45.

It was announced at worship last Sunday that Ethel Geist, who has served as our organist for 11 years will be stepping back from her duties at the end of February.  We look forward to celebrating her service to the church at an event on Sunday, February 25, but you don’t have to wait until then to let her know what you might want to share with her.  Also, please note that Session has approved allowing financial gifts for Ethel – make your check to APC and note ‘Ethel’s gift’ in the memo line.

Unfortunately, we had some flooding in the children’s choir room because of a frozen/broken pipe.  Children will be directed elsewhere until the room is refurbished.

After worship or on Sunday evening, you can go to Grub Burger at 159 York Road in Willow Grove, mention the APC Youth fundraiser and 15% of your total bill will go to our Youth Scholarship Fund.

The apportionment amount for each confirmed member of APC is $28.03.  This is the amount our presbytery charges us for each member.  These funds help provide for staffing at presbytery, synod, and general assembly levels of our denomination.  For those who are able to pay for this apportionment, it is greatly appreciated and frees up our budgeted funds for what is needed here.

Two special events that are happening a week from Sunday on January 28:

Music at Abington will have a Special Family Event entitled ‘Simple Gifts Folk Music.’  Karen Hirshon and Linda Littleton plus ten instruments equal a good time with a wide variety of ethnic folk music.  3 p.m. in the sanctuary.

A service of Blessing of the Animals will take place that same day in the Parish Hall at 4:30 p.m.  Bring your dog on a leash and cats or other animals in some kind of container.  We will celebrate God’s creative goodness that we get to experience through our loving companions.

Looking long term, but something to act on now:

Our congregational intergenerational mission trip will be in Farmington, Maine June 24-30, where we will be staying in college dorms, and working to rehab houses in the community.  The cost to go on the trip will be $500 and we need a $100 deposit this month to reserve your space.  Please talk with Diane Fitch for more information or to express interest.

Grace and peace,

Kirby Lawrence Hill
