2018 Annual Report

2018 Capital Campaign Commitment Card

APC members and friends:

This Sunday, is the beginning of the Advent season! In addition to having the first candle of the Advent wreath lit, we will enter this season of active waiting and preparation for the celebration of the birth of our Lord Jesus Christ, with a focus on the light of God.  In the sanctuary, you will see a large Moravian star to remind us of that focus.  Our scripture readings will be Isaiah 2:1-5 and Romans 13:11-14, with the sermon entitled: ‘The Light of the Lord.’  Worship services are at 8 and 10 a.m.

The Associate Pastor Nominating Committee announced last Sunday that they have a nominee for our associate pastor position, which is the full-time staff position set to lead youth ministry and adult Christian formation efforts, as well as other aspects of ministry.  That person’s name will be shared once he has cleared the presbytery committees that have oversight.  The plan is for there to be a reception on Saturday, January 4, at which time the congregation will be invited to come meet the nominee.  He will preach at both services on January 5 and the Session will be calling a congregational meeting following the 10 a.m. service that day for the congregation to vote on whether to extend a call to this person.

Adult Forum and the Sunday morning Adult Bible Study will not meet on December 1.

Hanging of the Greens and the Advent Fair will be this Sunday, December 1 from 4 to 5:30, at which time there will be a Crock Pot Potluck.  Come enjoy being a part of the decorating team and make some Advent crafts!

Once again this year, we will offer an Alternative Gift Market where you can purchase a gift of hope in honor of someone on your Christmas list.  The purchase and distribution of livestock, farming tools and kitchen kits provide help and relief to people and communities in need.  The Market will be open on Sunday mornings during Advent.

Christmas Gifts for theVillage - Check out the bulletin board and sign up to provide unwrapped gifts for needy families.  Please have the gifts in by Sunday, December 8.  Thank you!

The Committee for Older Adult Ministry invites you to a Christmas party at Rydal Park.  All APC seniors (not just those who live at Rydal Park) are invited to join APC staff and committee members for caroling, fellowship, and refreshments on Tuesday, December 3 from 1:30 to 3:00 in the Sun and Social Room, 6th Floor at Rydal Park.

The PW Book Club will meet Wednesday, December 4 at 7:30 at Cindy Miller’s home to discuss Holy Envy: Finding God in the Faith of Others by Barbara Brown Taylor.  Contact Cindy at cindy.miller25@verizon.net with questions.

In a Stewardship update, we have received pledges for APC’s 2020 ministry from 82% of anticipated pledgers.  With those pledges, we are 85% of the way toward our goal of $665,000!  If you have not yet turned in your pledge for next year, please fill out a yellow pledge card in the pew racks and place it in the offering plate.  Thanks to all who are enabling a vibrant ministry through APC!

If you have not already done so, please click on this link to take a brief survey that will help give information to our website development team: https://forms.gle/XtY6m1RREnHpmk5k9

If you have suggested names for our Nominating Committee to consider for ruling elder, deacon, or audit team, please email Bill Thygeson <wthygeson@gmail.com>

During this Thanksgiving season, pause to express your gratitude unto the Giver of all good gifts.

Grace and peace,

Kirby Lawrence Hill
